2017 Championships - Who Won What

Grand Prix Championship 2017

Ever since John Slattery won two consecutive titles in 2003 and 2004 he's held the record on his own - until now. Brian Lever maintained his lead over his nearest rival, Robert Perry to win the title for a second year running. It was Brian's winning streak at the November UK Finals that helped him to increase his lead and I'm sure he'll be looking for three in a row next year.

Brian is the longest-standing active Biba member having joined in the very first week of its formation. He's taken home 14 winner's trophies over the years, including 6 Mains (the UK Finals 2017 being his latest). Robert Perry, Runner-up, is a newcomer to the Grand Prix stats despite his 1 Main and 3 Consolation titles. Perhaps next year, Robert?

Finally: Overall it's been a good year with an increase of 9.5% in entrants over last year and a new record of 322 players taking part from a range of tournaments. Thank you to all that participated and I look forward to a good turnout for 2018.

IMPORTANT STUFF: After discussions with a few players and after reading some of your emails it has been decided to include the Friday Warm-up in the GP awards as a seperate event thus giving entrants two scores over the weekend. This was decided upon in order that Biba entrants were able to get in six 'events' during the season.

Grand Prix Championship after the Bright 'n' Breezy, January 2018

Early days .... not a lot to say .... once we get a few more events in things'll take shape.

Grand Prix Championship after The Lakes and British Open

Coming in to the Top 8: Paul Christmas, Lawrence Powell, Graham Read, Peter Christmas, Andy Darby, Crispin Duke and Neil Foston.

Dropping out: Jon Barnes, Nicky Check, Stephen Carder, Walter Busato, Radu Ciortan, Eric McAlpine, John Hurst.

Staying in: Uli Koch.

So, a few changes, then? More will follow the Manchester One-Day and Blackpool.

The Ranking Championship ended in 2014 when Biba downsized to four events a year. With just three that qualified it was felt no longer viable to continue.
