Biba Multi Challenge, March 2013

Report by Michael Crane

Well, I thought offering players a good mix of differing opponents (minimum of seven) and a range of different match lengths (four minimum) was a decent format - I was wrong. However, the low turnout didn't have much effect on the concept; each entrant had a minimum seven opponents and it turned out to be an enjoyable weekend.

In the Main, Mardi Ohannessian almost had a clean sweep and it was only in the 7th Round that he was defeated by Simon Morecroft. Eric McAlpine was hoping to match Mardi but, having lost to him in the 1st Round and then later to Simon in the 4th Round the best he could do was take a well deserved, 2nd Place.

Mick and Simon

Mick Vacarey and Simon shared four wins each but, thanks to their head-to-head encounter Mick was placed 3rd. Simon got his own back in the Consolation, he came out the leaving Mick the Runner-up.

Mick also lost out in the Friday 500 when he was second to Eric. The outcome of this means Lawrence Powell stays at the top (as expected) and Eric edges Mardi out of 2nd place. And, a bonus is I jump in to 4th with Mick a tad behind me.

There's not much more to say about this weekend's backgammon except to thank those that turned out for doing so.

I expect a much bigger turnout for next month's British Open sponsored by My Web Presenters.
